The answer lies not in light itself\, but instead how we use artificial light at night. \nFor centuries\, we have become accustomed to using artificial light after dark\, treating it as a natural part of our lives. But it isn’t. Living organisms – including plants\, animals\, and humans – have adapted to the natural cycle of day and night for tens of millions of years. Our biological rhythms are closely tied to the rising and setting of the Sun each day. Disrupting this natural cycle with artificial light has serious consequences for our health\, the environment\, and the economy. As artificial lighting continues to increase around the world\, understanding its impacts has never been more important. \nIn this program\, discover what light pollution is\, how it affects our world\, and the simple steps we can take to protect our night skies. DESCRIPTION:This year’s free mobile art classes for kids will be focusing on fiber arts! Your student will learn how to sew\, weave\, and felt in this 3-week series. \nGrades 5-8 will complete one project each week on October 6\, 13\, and 20. Classes run 4-5:30 pm in the V.O. Dobbins Community Room. \n\nLesson 1: Sewing skills; students will leave with a fabric pillow or stuffed animal\nLesson 2: Weaving on a tapestry loom; students will leave with a small\, completed weaving\nLesson 3: Wet felting; students will leave with a felted flower\n\nAbout this series: Mobile Art Studio classes are a grant funded initiative organized by the Kingsport Cultural Arts office\, City of Kingsport. This program is funded\, in whole or in part\, by the State of Tennessee\, Tennessee Arts Commission.
