SUMMARY:Exchange Place Fall Folk Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:Exchange Place Living History Farm\, 4812 Orebank Road in Kingsport\, will hold its 54th annual Fall Folk Arts Festival on Saturday\, September 26\, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.\, and Sunday\, September 27\, from noon to 5 p.m. This celebration of traditional arts and crafts and the harvest season will feature artisans demonstrating and selling a wide array of heritage folk arts along with autumn plants\, an assortment of food items\, and hand-crafted arts of today. \nAmong the featured demonstrators will be acclaimed fifth generation cooper Rick Stewart and his son and apprentice Brendon who is carrying on the family legacy\, banjo maker Dennis Farris\, corn husk doll maker Dorothy McMillan\, and lye soap makers Jack and Jamie Harvey with Sadie’s Soap. Visitors will also see sorghum making\, spinning and weaving\, sheep shearing\, blacksmithing\, gourd carving\, and hearthside cooking. \nThroughout the weekend storytellers Steve Gilly and Rod Mullins of the Stories of Appalachia podcast will share the history and folk lore of the region and local musicians will play. The young’uns can try their hand at 19th century chores and play with activities scattered around the farmstead. Children of all ages will enjoy seeing the farm animals. \nAdmission is $5 for adults and free for children under 12.
