Guided by an experienced instructor\, you’ll learn to shape\, texture\, and finish metal while crafting a rose that will never wilt. \nIn this workshop\, you’ll: \n\nCut and shape flower petals using shears and snips\nAdd unique texture with hammers and forming tools\nTwist multiple wires together to create a sturdy stem\nLeave with a handcrafted copper rose to treasure or gift\n\nNo prior experience is necessary—just bring your creativity.  \nAll tools and materials are provided.  \nPlease bring work gloves or garden gloves if you have them. \nPlease wear natural fibers\, close-toed shoes\, full length pants\, and have any long hair pulled back. She enjoys teaching and showing others how to bring their ideas to tangible realities and experience the joy of creating. Brandon grew up here in East Tennessee and enjoys helping keep the maker spirit history of this region alive.

DESCRIPTION:Meet local author Benjamin Kisoni. His works share powerful stories of faith\, resilience\, and hope shaped by his journey from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Johnson City. Books will be available for purchase and signing throughout the day. \n\n\nBenjamin Kisoni is a pastor from the Democratic Republic of Congo in central Africa\, where he also worked as a school principal\, writer\, and radio presenter. The Congo has been plagued by violence and wars for several decades\, which caused Benjamin to flee for his safety after gunmen killed his brother and wanted to kill him too. He has lived in Johnson City for 17 years and is currently working as the Global Outreach Coordinator at Grace Fellowship Church. \n\nHe has written two books\, “God\, Where Are You?” which is part of his life story of suffering and God’s redemption\, and “Kimbé\, A Story of Suffering\, Disillusionment and Hope\,” a novel about child soldiers in his country. Kimbé\, an ambitious teenager\, sees his dream to pursue school and positively change his community shattered when his father is brutally killed by unidentified thugs. To avenge his father and vent his rage and despair\, he decides to join a local militia group that calls themselves “Liberators.” Kimbe’s adventure in the militia turns into a nightmare and he discovers that he is the one who needs to be liberated. Will the “young liberator” finally be liberated? It is a story of renewed hope.

DESCRIPTION:Gain confidence in your woodworking knowledge\, and leave with a completed cutting board!\n\n\nOur goal for this workshop is to learn safe basic woodworking skills and have fun while doing it! We will go over safe machine usage\, how to select the right woods for your board\, processing the lumber and finally finishing the project so you will have a board to take home and use! By the end of class\, each student will be confident in their abilities to start their woodworking journey. \nPlease wear close-toed shoes\, full length pants\, and no loose/dangly garments or jewelry. \nWe will provide PPE like safety glasses\, dust masks\, etc. but you are welcome to bring your own. Otherwise\, just bring yourself and be ready to have a good time! \nBring a packed Lunch as we will eat half way through during the glue-up. \nAge 16+\, under 18 MUST be accompanied by a guardian. \nThis is part of our “Art for All” grant funded series that helps remove financial barriers to hands-on learning by offering classes at 40–45% less than our regular rates. This program opens the door for more people to build skills\, explore creativity\, and learn in a welcoming makerspace environment—because access to education should be for everyone. \n\n\n\n“Growing up\, my grandfather worked in Eastman Operations but also had a passion for woodworking. One of my cherished gifts from him was a croquet mallet. When I got married\, my husband started learning from my grandfather\, but I gradually realized that this was something I could do\, too. And so I started helping my husband and gradually growing my skills until I could be independently woodworking myself and making the things I wanted to make. DESCRIPTION:What is a silent book club? A meeting for all who love to read! No exclusive groups. No assigned books. No pressure to have something smart to say. Everyone is welcome. Talk as much\, or as little\, as you like. Read what you want at your own pace\, whether that’s a textbook\, comic book\, fiction — whatever!\n\nMeetups will be at 6pm and consist of approximately 30 minutes of socializing followed by one hour of silent reading. Everyone brings their own book. To close\, we will have another 30 minutes of socializing (or\, if you prefer\, you can keep reading)!\n\nWe are always open to everyone\, regardless of our theme/event for the night\, participation in theme/event is not required. Tables may be limited\, but there is bar\, lounge\, and outdoor seating available.
