SUMMARY:“Dark Side of Light”
DESCRIPTION:Light pollution. How can something as essential as light be considered a pollutant? The answer lies not in light itself\, but instead how we use artificial light at night. \nFor centuries\, we have become accustomed to using artificial light after dark\, treating it as a natural part of our lives. But it isn’t. Living organisms – including plants\, animals\, and humans – have adapted to the natural cycle of day and night for tens of millions of years. Our biological rhythms are closely tied to the rising and setting of the Sun each day. Disrupting this natural cycle with artificial light has serious consequences for our health\, the environment\, and the economy. As artificial lighting continues to increase around the world\, understanding its impacts has never been more important. \nIn this program\, discover what light pollution is\, how it affects our world\, and the simple steps we can take to protect our night skies. This program is followed by a quick look at the constellations\, planets and other celestial wonders visible in the night sky from our region. \nShow length ~ 40 min. \n  \n.avia-button-avb6abf6237224ae:hover {background-color: #444444 !important;color: #ffffff !important;transform: translateZ(0) scale(1.03); }Click here to register online for tickets

\n  \n.avia-button-avb6abf62373d95a:hover {background-color: #444444 !important;color: #ffffff !important;transform: translateZ(0) scale(1.03); }Click here to register online for tickets

SUMMARY:“Comets & Discovery”
DESCRIPTION:This program is much more than a straight narrative about comets. The show takes the viewer on a journey of discovery. We follow two intrepid comet hunters in first-person. One\, a modern explorer peering out into the night sky. The other\, Caroline Herschel. The famous 18th century comet huntress that made many historic comet observations. With both\, we learn how they each searched the skies\, made their discoveries\, and how those discoveries shaped the field of Astronomy. We also learn about\, depending on the century of the observer\, what people thought comets were and their importance to them. All sorts of special filmmaking techniques\, together with a captivating script and sumptuous score\, were used to create this Bays Mountain Production. \nThis program incorporates two live sequences to enhance the learning and fun. The first will be an activity to involve the audience to learn more about the parts of a comet\, the path a comet takes\, and the dust and ion tails that splay out in their correct directions as the comet orbits the sun. The second sequence will use a facility’s star projection system and focus on any upcoming comets to see in the sky and how to view them. \nShow length ~ 40 min. \n  \n.avia-button-avb6abf62373fa9f:hover {background-color: #444444 !important;color: #ffffff !important;transform: translateZ(0) scale(1.03); }Click here to register online for tickets
