Spoiler Confession
I have never seen the movie Polar Express.
Now the truth is out. I thought it would be interesting to see what the Kingsport Library was cooking for their Polar Express weekend. This was one of many events planned through the season as part of Christmas in Kingsport.
When I arrived, a line of folks was in the Library dressed in pajamas. Yes – there were a few families with matching pajamas in on the fun too.
The Polar Express was scheduled to be at the Library at 2pm, and Casey Applebaum, one of the programmers at the Library, was right on schedule. At 2pm, the kids, parents, and grandparents made their way into the dark auditorium at the Library. There was a train, lots of popcorn and hot chocolate, and everybody looking for a front-row seat.
Casey started to read from the book by Chris Van Allsburg, and the children were hushed. Eyes wide-open to the tale from the pages told masterfully by the folks at the Library.
I heard that the Polar Express conductor appeared after the movie was shown in the Library. Still, I had another event to go to – so I missed Matthew Lane in his costume – but the pictures look fantastic.
I may have to rent that movie this weekend. The last time it was advertised, you could still pick it up at Blockbuster: –). I promise I’ll see the film someday, too, especially in appropriate pajamas.
Here’s a few photos from the event this weekend.
