The Witch of Lomax Street has done it again this year for Halloween by transforming
her yard into a ghoulish cemetery filled with tombstones, skeletal birds and a small
undead army of zombies.
Christina Newman, the aforementioned “witch,” has for the past 14 years gone above
and beyond in decorating her Lomax Street home and yard for Halloween. It’s the one
with spooky music and sound effects, multiple fog machines and tombstones stretched
from one end of the property to the other.
In previous years, Newman has filled her property with skeletons and monsters, but this
year’s theme is of course zombies. Lots of zombies.
“We’ll have 38 standing zombies, 17 groundbreaker zombies and 10 yard haunters
(people dressed as zombies). Some freshly bitten and some who have yet to turn,”
Newman said. “We’ll also have a zombie pit near the driveway, a mausoleum, two
projection systems and a selfie spot with a couple of skeletons in prison.”
Newman purchases and crafts her Halloween decoration throughout the year but begins
in earnest around the first of October. Weather permitting, Zombieland will be open from
5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. tonight through Halloween. However, the fog machines and
projection system will only be going on Halloween.
Last year, more than 720 kids came through trick-or-treating and enjoying the Lomax
Street Cemetery. This year, Newman hopes to hit 750. Let’s help her reach her goal,
shall we?
