The warm weather this past Saturday helped fill the streets of Kingsport’s Broad Street and Church Circle. I dropped in for a few photo opportunities and saw the magic of Christmas – again. I learned a few lessons too, and was inspired by new businesses in Downtown Kingsport.
There was a lot going on at Glen Bruce Park this weekend during the “Christmas In Kingsport” events. The snow machines were working hard, and professional photographer Eric Donahue took superb photos for anyone who wanted a free picture. The Kodak moments were quite a sight against the backdrop of over 50 radiant Christmas Trees.
There’s nothing like a good snow machine, either. It created a postcard moment at every turn, but be warned – there’s another extension to the phrase, “Don’t eat the yellow snow.” We need to add the following: “or artificial snow blower snow.” Pretty. Sudsy. That is all.
Otherwise, one of my favorite moments with my iPhone was a “right place at the right time” media file. Downtown Kingsport has a new Mexican restaurant (La Ingrata) across from the Library. There’s a DJ who performs outside each weekend. He’s got a good act, too, with plenty of screens, lights, and just the right attitude to get a party started.
When the Village People horn section started to play “YMCA,” I turned on my smartphone camera to capture a scene that unfolded on Broad Street. A couple of brothers and their father were walking down the street, and the music made the moment.
Although the music is great, somewhere along the way, one of the brothers falls down off the curb. He gets back up and is fine, but if you watch the video and listen to the lyrics – truly a one-of-a-kind moment.
Check out the Christmas events in downtown Kingsport right up to the big moment. Many new experiences await here; you never know what stories you’ll tell.
