Friends of the Kingsport Public Library announce a special presentation as part of its Annual Membership Meeting, Thursday, April 10, 6:30pm, (doors opening at 6pm) at the First Broad St United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 100 East Church Circle. (Easiest entrance to the Fellowship Hall is from the rear of the building off Charlemont St, beside the Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home). FOL is excited to welcome back to Kingsport Dr. Carolyn Pearson Jenkins, widow of the late Rev. Dr. Clark Jenkins, to present SERVANT LEADER as she shares about writing her new book BLAZING TOWARD FREEDOM: Septima Poinsette Clark’s Story from Slave to Queen Mother of the Movement.
While Dr. CAROLYN PEARSON JENKINS was born and raised in SC, she spent 2 years working in Kingsport City Schools during her husband’s assignment as Senior Minister at 1st Broad St. UMC from 2007-2010. A former librarian, teacher, curriculum coordinator, curriculum designer, adjunct professor, and university trustee, Jenkins has had extensive experience working with students and curriculum. Her firsthand experiences and her BA Degree in English from Claflin University, her Master of Library Science Degree from North Carolina Central University, and her Ed. D. in Curriculum and Instruction Degree from the University of South Carolina at Columbia give her a solid foundation for contributing to the education field. She has received outstanding teacher and media specialist awards throughout the years. Because she is passionate about learners having access to quality literature and curriculum options, she writes to fill the curriculum resource voids she feels exists in our schools. Blazing Toward Freedom is her first book.
There is no admission fee for this event, and it is open to the entire community.
