AROUND TOWN
A picture is worth a thousand words, but what about a Kingsport mural? Now that’s priceless. With works by local artists, the trail is an excellent way to tour the city on foot and see some of the surrounding shops and eateries along the way.
With the summer months underway and the sun settling in the sky for hours on end, it leaves more time for photo opportunities among some of Kingsport’s most beautiful places. Kingsport, after all, was the first model city and brings a history of culture and opportunity for adventure. The downtown mural trail reflects that tradition.
All the murals are family friendly and make a perfect backdrop for the next holiday card, frameable moment or social media post. Don’t forget to tag #thisiskingsport!
The most recent addition to the mural trail was revealed earlier this month on the back of The Reserve cocktail bar located at 201 E. Center St. In the mural is a depiction of the famous Long Island iced tea cocktail, the origin of which Kingsport claims as its own, while New Yorkers stand by it having northeast heritage. Regardless of the friendly feud, Kingsport has unveiled a new mural celebrating the iconic beverage.
The trail features murals of the city, Blue Ridge Mountains, Bigfoot standing in front of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night and other creative designs. The murals are nestled in the heart of Kingsport and have stops at multiple spots along Main, Commerce, Cherokee, East Market, West Market, Broad, West New, Revere and East Sullivan streets and North Eastman Road.
For anyone planning a trip to Kingsport or a staycation exploring the city’s most popular spots, the mural trail is a must-see destination.
