It was a bit nippy in Kingsport this past Saturday. Walking past a couple of greyhounds in holiday sweaters, I texted my friend Steve who lives in a downtown loft…
“Santa’s coming to town. Meet me at Centennial.”
It wasn’t long before Steve, and his four-legged compadre’ Sultan met us in the crowd of people from all over the Appalachian Highlands. They were all gathered at Kingsport’s Santa’s Depot to welcome the 80th running of the Santa Train.
The COVID era stopped the train for the past couple of years, but this was a gorgeous day for cheer, joy, and the magic that only Christmas can bring out among the young and old alike.
There were plenty of moments to capture too. Even an average photographer can get a lucky break when there are kids. My favorite photo was the lineup of people on the side of the train tracks – waiting on a train.
Thanks to Visit Kingsport, Downtown Kingsport, and The City of Kingsport, who organized this year’s event and put on the antlers and elf costumes to welcome Santa and usher in the season here in Kingsport.
